Encouraging Community Projects
The Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation was formed with the
proceeds from the sale of Tucson General Hospital to Summit Health,
Ltd., in 1986. As a result, the Foundation is a private operating
foundation and, unlike community foundations, most of its resources
are used in operating its own programs.
However, this has not precluded the Foundation from making awards
to community organizations. Called Trustee Awards, they provide
grants to help smaller community projects with urgent needs that
can be resolved with a modest amount of charitable dollars.
To date, 30 small grants have been provided to organizations such
as the Community Food Bank, Arizona Theater Company, Boys and
Girls Clubs, Youth on Their Own, Mobile Meals, the annual Juneteenth
festival and Schumaker Elementary School.
