Colon Cancer

The American Cancer Society's study of government data has revealed some positive and improved statistics regarding colon cancer. The number of Americans 50 and older with colon cancer plunged 30% from nearly three decades ago according to this new study. The number of Americans with colon cancer has been declining since the mid-1980s due to a higher rate of colonoscopies, access to information, and advancements in technology.

You might be thinking that employers should be fined for allowing so many eye injuries on the job, but you'd be mistaken. Most eye injuries today happen at home, and if they don't, they happen on the athletic fields and in parks.

Medical cost transparency is a hot topic among business, academic and political leaders worldwide -- and a new Arizona law reflecting this trend goes into effect December 31. House Bill 2045 requires health care providers make available on request or online the direct pay price for their 25 most commonly provided services and update that price list at least annually. Failure to do so is considered unprofessional conduct, subject to discipline by the licensing board.

TOMF Awards $1000 to the Foundation for Cardiovascular Health

In celebration of American Heart Month, the Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation is proud to announce it has awarded its February Trustee Award in the amount of $1,000 to the Foundation for Cardiovascular Health to provide funding for The Heart Disease Prevention Study. This study will measure outcomes of The HEART Series, an ongoing, comprehensive, medically directed, evidence based, hands-on program designed to prevent, halt, or reverse heart disease.
TOMF Awards $1000 to TOPS TEN Program!

The Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation Trustee Awards Program granted its first $1,000 award of 2013 to Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services to provide funding for their Teen Education Network. The TOPS TEN program aims to increase education and cultivate healthy lifestyle choices through a nine week educational program for teens. Funding from the award will provide education seminars and program materials for up to 40 students for one semester.
